'SMOTHERED
BIRD'
This series focusses on restriction and implied depth and space. Each piece hints at a world beyond and beneath the art. It explores the boundary between the artwork and the world around the artwork.
The artwork is a window into an unseen space and the subject is either sinking into or trying to escape from this space.
Restriction – subjects are submerged into the surface of the art and on top of that are then smothered in fabric, trapped inside the aforementioned world. Every visual artwork captures it’s subject and restricts it to the medium.

'Smothered Bird' Cotton on wooden board, 30cm x 35cm, 2025

The subject of the art is restricted to the artwork, suffocated and bound by the canvas.
As I create more entries in this series, each piece will contain a different subject smothered into the artwork. Each subject will represent a different motif.

The bird is the first in the series and is a little on the nose.
