This entry into my smothered series explores opposites and obscuration.
As in my ‘Caution’ piece, I use the boot as both a symbol of capitalist oppression and the working class.
The oppressor is merely implied by the print left in the surface. We see the mark but not object or the force that left it.

An impossibly hard print is left in an apparently delicate material, indicating that an unbelievably resistant structure lies beneath the surface. The creases in the fabric are paused in time and the tread print is embossed into the hard surface. The mark is made and can never be undone.
